The Event: The Black Block Party is an annual street party event, historically hosted at the Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza. Event founder Doyin Agbaje created the event with the aim of creating a gathering space where Black culture and talents are celebrated to foster community, friendship, and collaboration. In 2023, Lush was invited to participate by creating a sanctuary space.

The Format:

KindCo collaborated with the Lush events team to create a designated safe space to relax and unwind. The space was a welcoming and supportive environment for guests to sit, get out of the sun and engage in their senses. We created an inviting and relaxing sanctuary filled with lounge seating, plants, complimentary iced tea, and shade from the hot weather. The Sanctuary also offered complimentary Lush product samples, allowing guests to tap into their senses with a match-the-scent game and a colouring station to help kids and adults alike decompress. To celebrate Black voices of the community, we also showcased a curated library featuring books by local Black authors.
