And so it begins…

When I think of the word kind, I naturally think of my mother. The person I have grown to be today stems from the foundations she instilled in me from childhood. I grew up in a small town of around one thousand people, where she is well-known for her gentle and kind nature. She has worked for the school district for over 30 years and has made time and space for so many students who needed her love and support. She taught me to practise kindness daily and reminded me that I don’t know what it’s like to walk in someone else’s shoes. She encouraged me to see the good in others, even when that good might not have been easy to see. I am grateful for the model she provided, even when it frustrated me because it meant I had to look outside my perspective.

In an industry driven by the bottom line, there can be a misconception in business that you shouldn’t be too kind. It is implied that with kindness comes complacency, which means people may not work as hard. With over a decade of leadership experience, I have found nothing to be a better motivator or connector than kindness. Kindness should not be confused with being nice. Providing critical feedback to a client or coworker, even when it’s the hard thing to do is actually kind. As Bréne Brown says, “clear is kind.” I have had many difficult conversations over my career, but I have found that when I take the time to root them in kindness, the outcome leads to a stronger relationship.

I believe that kindness means listening for understanding. It means taking the time to be present with those around us. As we work to solve the complex issues that companies face, from launching a new product to aligning internally with our next strategic objective, we can provide better solutions when we see, hear, and connect with those around us. KindCo operates with the philosophy that we can make the world a better place one project at a time. This starts by rooting our strategies in human connection. Our model focuses on delivering meaningful brand experiences by putting people at the centre. When we put people first, we inspire cooperation and action; and action changes the world.
